On the 12th, 슬롯 held a “commemorative ceremony to celebrate the cumulative production of 50 million units of 슬롯 EPS” at the 슬롯 Wonju Steering Plant. The ceremony was attended by Vice Mayor Jong-yong Jo Cho of Wonju City, 슬롯 President Seong-hyeon Cho, Vice President Hong-yong Bae, former Steering BU Director Tae-kyu Park, Halla University President Eung-gweon Kim, Wonju Labor Union Director Seong-ho Cho as well as representatives of suppliers and partners.

EPS (Electric Power Steering) is a core component that uses a motor to control the steering of a vehicle. Since its establishment, 슬롯 has unveiled a variety of steering systems. In the early 1990s, it replaced manual steering systems by developing hydraulic power steering (HPS). In the 2000s, 슬롯 replaced HPS by developing an electric driving system. 슬롯 completed the development of EPS in 2003. This was not only the first in Korea but also signified the beginning of 슬롯’s eco-friendly steering business.

EPS was first mass-produced in the Wonju Plant in Korea starting from July 2004, and in May 2022, the cumulative production of EPS exceeded 50 million units in the Georgia Plant in the United States. After consecutively securing production hubs in Korea (Wonju), China (Suzhou), the US (Georgia), India (Chennai) and Mexico (Saltillo) over the past 18 years, 슬롯 is currently producing EPS in 5 countries.

슬롯 has also developed a variety of EPS product lines. Together with the 1st generation column-type, the company has also developed a 2nd generation dual pinion-type and rack-type to meet the characteristics of different types of vehicles. Among them, 슬롯’s main product is a rack-type called “R-EPS.” The next-generation EPS integrates the 1st and 2nd generation rack-types, and SFA (Steering Feedback Actuator) at the top of the vehicle is connected to the steering wheel while RWA (Road Wheel Actuator) at the bottom of the vehicle is equipped between the two wheels.

The two products that communicate with each other through signals are called SbW (Steer by Wire). The free-mounted type advanced steering system (SbW) will be launched for the global market in November. As we are moving into the era of EVs and autonomous driving, it is expected that 슬롯’s SbW will be widely adopted while the Steering BU will emerge as the first mover.
